The Friends of Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park will be presenting a 1999 Dodge extended van as an early Christmas present to the wildlife park on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. When the Friends learned at a recent board meeting that the park was in need of a van for its outreach staff to transport wildlife for wildlife education programs throughout the region, they agreed that they could spend up to $10,000 towards the purchase of a van for the park's wildlife department. In the past year the wildlife park's outreach program traveled 2,709 miles, to present 54 outreach programs to 22,443 people.

Friends' Board member Mike Gudis approached Steve and Jewel Lamb of Crystal Chevrolet and explained what the citizen support organization had to spend and the specifications required. The Lambs offered to look for a van that would meet the park's requirements and do any necessary detailing at their expense. They found a 1999 Dodge van, detailed it and paid the difference between the funds the Friends had available and the actual cost. The Lambs said they wanted to help the Friends obtain the van in order to help the park in its efforts to educate the public about wildlife.

Friends' President, Ken Sharpe, noted that the citizen support organization raises funds to support park projects through events and projects year round. In addition to their fund-raising efforts, many members of the Friends also volunteer throughout the park. Members of the wildlife park's Outreach Committee are also Friends members and do numerous outreach programs for schools, clubs and organizations monthly.
